The Mabel Story- tonight!

I've been waiting a while to see this- and it's here TONIGHT- it's the Mabel Story, produced by four amazing local women, all of whom I admire for their creative talents. I've gotten to know each of these ladies through various projects, and I'm very excited to see the performance tonight.

Hope to see you there!

February 9th and 10th at 7:30PM
The Mabel Story is a multimedia theatrical reinterpretation of the Russian Folk tale “Vasilisa the Brave” featuring live musical storytelling and acrobatic dance theater. The show has been called a “visual feast”, weaving fantastical video art and shadow play with sets and costumes that harken back to Jim Henson's The Dark Crystal. Maria Pugnetti, playing both narrator and hero, tells Mabel's story through an all original musical score that combines freak folk with a touch of Bjork and the classic bedtime story . The dynamic dance trio Radha Newsom, Jahnavi Newsom, and Cyndal Ellis animate the stage with a contemporary fusion of modern dance, capoeira, acrobatics, and tribal style belly dance. The Mable Story transports audiences of all ages on an other-worldly adventure.

Synopsis:
Set in the 1800’s of the American West, The Mabel Story tells the tale of a girl orphaned by typhus on the Oregon Trail. Mabel is left in the care of a sinister widow and her two daughters who exploit the young girl. Mabel's only comfort is an enchanted doll, a gift from her diseased mother, that consoles and guides her. When Mabel comes of age, she embarks on a dangerous rite of passage journey through a surreal wilderness in search of the witch Baba Sova. Along the way Mabel encounters a magical world of plants and animals, faces certain death, and, in the end, gains courage and gratitude for the natural world.

Firekeeper Productions is a collaborative dance and theater project that promotes art as a tool to empower and heal individuals and communities through performance, instruction, and dialog. The Mabel Story goes beyond the production of mere entertainment and explores the realm of sacred storytelling where performers and audience alike embark on an inspiring journey.

The show will take place at New England Youth Theater, 100 Flat Street, Brattleboro, VT on Thursday February 9 and Friday February 10 at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $13 in advance and $15 at the door. Advance purchases can be made at Turn It Up, 2 Elliot St., Brattleboro, VT. (cash or checks only).

My Home and Gardens

There's so many choices when it comes to selecting a home, isn't there? Sometimes I imagine living right on the beach with my rustic cottage dressed up in vintage whites and a sparkly chandelier. I've also pictured a more modern home, but with cozy touches and bright art.

I'm always drawn to historic homes for their charm, unique features, and stories of the people who lived there before. Who knows where I'll end up in the future, but for now, it's here in my 1920's Arts and Crafts home in Brattleboro, Southern Vermont. (Just imagine the snow:)
